too slow? too lazy.

a simple search of the word 'Aldrin' would have saved this.

is it just me or has there been a large upswing in the number of repeats over the past couple days?

seems like the guy has been antisocial for quite awhile, this isn't the first time an astronaut's been a jerk in public, either.

phylum sinter: Just to note that this is a double post (see yesterdays thread on the same topic). This thread will soon be deleted, so if you want your comment and link read you should probably post them in the other thread.

Jerks? Hmmmm. How dare our heroes be mere human beings after all.

Funny:

...a conspiracy theory that some critics maintain gives conspiracy theory a bad name.

i think there has been a large upswing in repeats because new users are keen to get on the board, i know I was when I joined.

but as I learned, posting doesn't get you laid.

money does.

gettin stressed about repeat posting doesnt get you laid either and its your choice to click the link to something youve already seen...and anyway what are you even monitoring this thread for if its a repeat post...?

Just seems to me a great deal more energy goes into jumping on people who repeat post rather than posting something new....

how is an astronaut's helmet like a teapot?

don't ask me. i found the picture on ebay.

you're quite right berto, and normally i wouldn't be bothered, but twice in the last week I have seen a double post within a day of the original where a 'little' effort (or even a press of the 'page down' key) could have prevented it. with the arrival of 2000 new users (and I welcome our new 16K+ overlords) we are seeing the rush of excitement as people get their name on the board, checking back to see how many have people have commented, what they've said etc. I know, cause i did it when i started.

JonnyX's 'too slow' comment sums up the desire to get on the board and emphasises the continual asphyxiation of decent 'crafted / researched' posts by regurgitated news pages.

now i have put effort into this. thank you good night, drive safely.

Double posting is a clear breach of the guidelines and furthermore it's suboptimal. A polite notification will suffice however: it need not be a "callout". The reason people mention it is really for Matts benefit. He likes to delete double posts, and doesn't have an infinite amount of time to scour the site for them himself.

Just seems to me a great deal more energy goes into jumping on people who notify double posts rather then checking to see if it's been posted before ... ;-)

Why is Buzz like a writing desk?

Because a writing desk has never been to the moon either?

You mean he's an astronaut...and he vibrates?
posted by liam at 7:35 AM on September 12, 2002

I heard it vibrates. Or maybe it Buzzes. Really packs a punch, none the less. (rimshot!)

Frasermoo and Walrus

Fair cop. It doesnt take much effort to check if somethings been posted before and as a regular browser who has never posted to MeFi (I hardly ever comment either) I probably shouldnt get invloved. However I guess some people could be put off posting (to some extent myself included but mainly im just too lazy!) by fear of being ridiculed in the ensuing debate. I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing - I guess it reduces repeat posting and that is a good thing!

Maybe i should take my own advice and spend more time on posting something new... ;o)

Not if they keep repeating the magic phrase!

"It's only a website. It's only a website."

Seriously though, we all worry too much. The worst possible consequence is having to put up with lots of broomstick jokes until the thread disappears. Anyway, getting back on topic: I, for one, welcome our new vibrating astronaut over....no, on second thoughts ...
