Generate yourself a cat avatar with the Cat Avatar Generator for Generating Cat Avatars. (via JHarris' LinkMe submission)

Shelf stable, so feeding it the same username will always generate the same cat.

(Not sure I could ask for anything cuter for this happy-go-lucky nobody cat.)

(And...it looks like somebody doesn't want to hear what the metafilter cat has to say.)

FYI the "nobody cat" link does not show a cat, but if you type "nobody" in the name box and hit the button, it will show you.

"metafilter" as a name generates a gray cat wearing a blue scarf!

Weirdly the links show up as errors, but when you type the names in it shows the cats. What a cat-astrophe!

I've tried about five names. All of them have expressions suggesting they're watching someone steal their favorite sunning spot off screen.

Isn't the natural state of any cat avatar "casual smugness"?

It depicted 2 out of 3 of my current feline companions spot on. Which, given the name quality of many cats, is quite an accomplishment.

I am looking forward to trying out human names and monikers when I have time.

I typed in the username I use in a lot of other places, and got a happy cat!

I typed in the name of my tabby cat and it made a picture of a black cat. But when I put in the name of my black cat it showed me a tabby cat! I think I must’ve screwed up naming my cats!

HeroZero: How? Why?

This page has the why (the creator got rid of Gravatar and wanted a new way to create user avatars for a website), this has the how (I will leave the summary of this to someone who understands PHP)

Thanks capricorn. To be clear, I think this is delightful. I don't know how I failed to say explicitly that I was riffing on the original cat scan post, or why.

The “don’t use this for NFTS” link at the bottom displays an astounding lack of comprehension of what a Creative Commons license entails, especially for someone who has built a name for himself as “that guy who draws CC0 comics with Free-As-In-Beer Software”.

The gist I get from that "don't use that for NFTs" link is "It's not illegal for you to make NFTs around my art but still don't do it" which I think is exactly correct.
