Ooph. That sub-headline hits you right in the gut, and hard. All the dots, and peace, to him and his family.

I found this story absolutely heartbreaking. Some more takes, all roughly similar but with different photos: NY Post (which had the original interview with the nephew), Washington Post and NYTimes.
I was afraid of being ostracized: by Family, Friends, and Co-Workers. Seeing how people like me were treated, I just could not do it.
I've known a fair number of men who came out later in life, in their 40s or 50s after their kids are grown. I admire their courage.

Previously on Metafilter: The world is full of love, and you’re entitled to some of it. Ken Felts who came out at age 90; he got married last year.

Truly, R.I.P.
I saw this the other day : pride celebrations are for everyone
But for many people,
the closet still remains
a practical necessity.

A necessity for safety
and survival...
Pride Celebrations are for everyone,
including those who cannot
celebrate it openly.

Read the Guardian article and felt for him and his partner so much. The family knowing and never saying to respect his privacy.

Peace to all those who fear ostracism and ridicule for who they are or who they love. May we be better allies every day.
