Fanny Live 1971-11-23
From the YouTube description: Fanny was an American all-female band, active in the early 1970s. They were one of the first notable rock groups to be made up entirely of women, the third to sign with a major label (after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and the Pleasure Seekers), and the first to release an album on a major label (in 1970). They achieved two top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and released five albums.
Wikipedia link
If you have a PBS subscription you can stream the documentary about them. They were ahead of their time and criminally ignored by history.

I like this LinkMe idea; it reminds me of the old memepool site. Just the links, and maybe a very short description. I like the more fleshed-out FPPs here, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I just want to surf a few "Hey, neat!" links, too.

So I was searching for a song by the German singer Nina Hagen and, thanks to a mistake made by Downtown Julie Brown many years ago, got confused and looked up the French singer Sapho by mistake, but misspelled it, and ended up watching music videos by the Australian singer Sappho, which I actually dig.

Southwest Airlines has announced they are discontinuing open seating on flights [archive] and going to an assigned seat system with premium seats available.
A number of factors seem to have driven the decision including "jetway Jesus" passengers dragging down boarding times, seeking new customers via search engines (which means they have to disclose the extra fees anyway), and a general need to increase revenue after a super-bad earnings report.

From Corey Robin: 'I wrote on America's latest love of the Jew and why that love is so disconcerting. It's not an overcoming of antisemitism but a regression to an older, European style politics of "the court Jew." It's not good for democracy, and it's not good for the Jews."' -- Two Paths for Jewish Politics (New Yorker)

This (WaPo) is an extremely odd article on Rip Van Winkle and testing AI stupidity.
Naming a motel, or hotel, for Van Winkle seems a bit different. Travelers want rest and sleep, not a 20-year alcohol-induced coma. And what sort of hotel allows this? Sure, people sometimes check in to a hotel to go on a bender, but does no one check on the poor man? No one thinks to maybe change the sheets or air out the room?
Man, this article makes me miss being a reporter, and thinking, "Someone got paid to produce this and it even got published."

WaPo: Your ‘hot’ passport photo could be a problem at the airport Better to “look like a swamp rat,” one travel agent suggested after a TikTok trend gone awry. Posted for sheer funny and quotes:
“This is why you should never do hot photos for your passport,” influencer Alisha Marie warned in a viral TikTok last year, dressed in a black hoodie and baseball cap with a face free of heavy makeup. She said she almost had been stopped from boarding a flight because she didn’t look like her chic, fully made-up passport photo.
“I purposely take my passport photo to look like a swamp rat,” she said. In an interview, Ambrusko-Maida said she was surprised that glamour-shot-type photos even get approved. Her advice is to think about what you might look like “after you’ve been on a flight for 15 hours overnight in a middle seat” and take a photo that looks like that whole situation instead.
Still, she said in a video on TikTok, her photo was rejected because her lips were too glossy.
