I love this idea, but I completely missed the second LinkMe thread.

Theo Jansen is engaged in creating new forms of life: the so called strandbeests

Not to be a buzzkill but MetaFilter is no stranger to the work of Mr. Jansen or his creatures although it could be said that we're overdue for another.

Remember that white guy smashing out the Autozone windows, at the beginning of the protests? Minneapolis police identify "Umbrella Man" who helped incite George Floyd riots.

The UK is having some issues with far right dickheads rioting at the moment. Here is a short clip which may or may not be from these troubles, but which is amusing nonetheless.

See Me, Feel Me, LinkMe

Of course this immediately makes me think of the Weird Al version: Numb Me, Drill Me, Floss me, Bill me.

MTV's Unplugged series featured some classic performances. Among them, we must number Annie Lennox at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1992.

Fanny Live 1971-11-23

From the YouTube description: Fanny was an American all-female band, active in the early 1970s. They were one of the first notable rock groups to be made up entirely of women, the third to sign with a major label (after Goldie & the Gingerbreads and the Pleasure Seekers), and the first to release an album on a major label (in 1970). They achieved two top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and released five albums.

Wikipedia link

If you have a PBS subscription you can stream the documentary about them. They were ahead of their time and criminally ignored by history.

I like this LinkMe idea; it reminds me of the old memepool site. Just the links, and maybe a very short description. I like the more fleshed-out FPPs here, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I just want to surf a few "Hey, neat!" links, too.

So I was searching for a song by the German singer Nina Hagen and, thanks to a mistake made by Downtown Julie Brown many years ago, got confused and looked up the French singer Sapho by mistake, but misspelled it, and ended up watching music videos by the Australian singer Sappho, which I actually dig.

Southwest Airlines has announced they are discontinuing open seating on flights [archive] and going to an assigned seat system with premium seats available.

A number of factors seem to have driven the decision including "jetway Jesus" passengers dragging down boarding times, seeking new customers via search engines (which means they have to disclose the extra fees anyway), and a general need to increase revenue after a super-bad earnings report.

From Corey Robin: 'I wrote on America's latest love of the Jew and why that love is so disconcerting. It's not an overcoming of antisemitism but a regression to an older, European style politics of "the court Jew." It's not good for democracy, and it's not good for the Jews."' -- Two Paths for Jewish Politics (New Yorker)
