Ronaldo’s goal was his 131st for Portugal, which extended his record for most international goals in world football.
Christine Sinclair actually holds the record with 190 goals and Ronaldo is sixth behind her and four other women.
It’s weird (but not unexpected) they got that wrong in the same paragraph where they specifically noted he has the most overall goals of any male player because I am pretty sure he is the flat-out overall scoring leader, men or women.

I’m not sure there is a footballer I dislike more and having watched the game for 50 years, I do have a fairly lengthy list. He’s very high up on my lists of humans I dislike too. Odious man.

It looks like Messi will hit 900 in maybe 2 years. If Ronaldo keeps playing in Saudi he might be at 1,000 then. I get the feeling the number doesn't matter so much to Messi, he has nothing left to prove, so he might retire by then, but Ronaldo isn't going to hang up his boots until he's sure Messi won't catch him.
