Your half-century dose of Waters and Gilmour agreeing on anything:

Body Count - "Comfortably Numb" feat. David Gilmour | The situation changed once Ice-T’s team circumvented the publishers and took the proposed track directly to Waters and Gilmour via their managers. “Once we got to David, he was like, ‘Fuck, yeah. I love this song. I approve it,'” says Ice-T. “And then Roger listened to it and his only comment was, ‘Who’s singing?’ When he heard it was Ice-T, he approved it.’ To have two people who sit on two opposite sides of the fence agree on a song, that means it must be good.” (Via Mojo Magazine & a Rolling Stone article)

I grew up on prog and discovered Body Count kind of late - 2017, I think, with Black Hoodie - and this was such a nice combination. I kind of faintly knew there might be a new album soon but I'm awful with keeping up with music news, so pretty psyched now.

I just put this on Spotify and my jaw dropped. For a second, I was like, "Holy shit, Body Count's guitarist leveled the fuck up!!" I'm not sure I've heard Body Count since the '90s, but to be honest, they...didn't sound like that. Then I saw that David Gilmour played guitar on this. I'm actually kind of more impressed now. He's 78! If Roger Waters weren't crazy, he'd be trying to record new stuff with him.

Instead he's been busy recording new stuff without Waters.

Thanks for posting this! I wouldn't have heard about it otherwise.

That said, I don't think the track is for me, despite me being a big fan of Pink Floyd and a Body Count early adopter (via the Judgment Night soundtrack). It's one of those things where all of the ingredients have merit, but mixed together I'm not really enjoying the dish.

Gilmour's chops are still amazing. Ice-T's rap feels kind of phoned-in. In combination I feel like it's all a bit easy mode... Floyd's signature "man, this guy's kind of messed up" song, a super literal title read leading to "why don't people care more about the issues" rap, what looks like an AI-generated low-effort video. I feel like this combination of talent should have resulted in something where I was more edge-of-my-seat, but it just didn't come together on this end.

Maybe I'm being a jerk and expecting too much from some sexagenarians and septuagenarians just having a good time with music, though. It's definitely better, and less harmful, than most new country.

I do not like this stew. Too many cooks; too many flavors.

🎶 It takes a lot to make a stew
Maybe some Waters
And Ice-T too! 🎶

I loved it; thank you for posting! I'm not a big rap/metal Body Count fan, but I see how good this track is. I think it's really cool that Gilmour rerecorded the lead guitar for it, too! That said, Ill Will, Body Count's drummer, really gives Lars Ulrich vibes on this one. I can't lay a finger on exactly what it is, but there's something.

Cool find!

I really tried to like this, but it just doesn't seem coherent - it's just a rap track overlaid on Gilmour's awesome guitar. I did find this live version, which I like a lot more. It's a bit less Gilmour and the guitar is not to the same standard, but it feels like a genuine track that stands on its own much more.
