Meredith Whitaker of Signal talks about the AI economy with FT. A brief profile and interview of one of the few voices within tech willing to speak out about the relationship of surveillance technologies and AI.

I'm sure there's a bunch of previouslies for her. I'm at work and should really be doing my job, but I did want to share. Several good points in this article. One thing I would specifically like to highlight is that universities are busy killing humanities and liberal arts departments. Seems relevant somehow that this leader in the tech world has an English degree.

Great read, she seems genuinely awesome!
Is there anything to the notion that Signal is comprised? I see it pop up constantly (usually delivered with a smug "oh you didn't know?" kind of attitude) but it also always seems to originate from some tech authoritarian like Musk.
That said, it seems grandiose to think using an app can protect you from surveillance capitalism (not that she's claiming that's what Signal does or could do).

"Signal is compromised" has often been a stealth boost of Telegram, which is a privacy-and-security tire fire.

What are the odds that wearing a veil will become illegal? Like in France. There for (supposedly) other reasons but reasons can be fungible.
