Marshall Brain has taken his own life.
At 63, Marshall was approaching his own self-imposed deadline in more ways than one. He was evolving throughout his life from an encyclopedic obsession with how stuff works, to an obsession with how to make money, to a shared optimistic obsession with getting off this planet in a sustainable fashion (despite strong feelings about how we are handling our affairs here on earth), to a many-pronged obsessive pessimism. Through it all was a great streak of enthusiastic compassion worthy of Thanksgiving.
Hacker News thoughts on his passing.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Sorry, but this conflicts with some criteria for Best Practices and Recommendations for Reporting on Suicide, which we try to abide by. No problem to do an edit and re-up for this. -- taz
