This is important: We exist in time. Whenever someone is born, it opens a window into time, a glimpse of the universe that stretches from the moment your eyes first blink open until they finally shut. This is about to be your window.

Awwwww, that's bittersweet -- but mostly sweet! I hope all are well.

I’ve always believed that parents experience a fuller sense of the meaning of life than the rest of us.
I’ve also always believed that the personal cost is higher than I’d ever want to pay.

This is a lovely, incredibly human essay.
The best comedians, and Petri's columns are typically very funny, even when taking on very unfunny topics (e.g. Let's try something different with Polio), are those with a deep connection to humanity.

(I don't think she was maybe being held to the very highest standards of performance, given the setting -- if you get my drift.)

I love that. It reminds me of the long walks I would take, pushing my daughter around in the stroller through the quiet calm of the afternoon, and explaining the myriad ways of how gravity may be the most important thing she'll come to understand. It's funny the things you forget, and the things you remember, with the passage of time. Petri is such a gem.

Also, presumably written earlier last week, because Ms. Petri was posting on Blusky on Friday: then, just under four hours later: posted by martin q blank at 7:24 AM on January 13 [1 favorite]
