"I kept a running list of aspects around blindness that could be included"

"[Joe] Strechay has a unique role in the entertainment business: making sure people with visual impairments are portrayed realistically -- well, at least as realistically as they can be in a sci-fi show about a post-apocalyptic world where everyone is sightless."
Pretty cool. I heard they used consultants for the See TV series. My wife got me to watch the show... she's a big fan of Jason Momoa. I enjoyed the show but ultimately found it luke warm and forgettable.
I appreciated that they did put some effort into making the non-seeing people seem pretty plausible in the various post-apocalyptic stuff they were doing. Creative solutions to everyday obstacles and communications. And I liked that they were practiced, nearly effortlessly skilled with doing these things they had learned since childhood. That was probably the best aspect of the show. (and yeah, the wearing color-coordinated clothing bugged me too... why would they even bother to color the wool or other fabrics they made? It wouldn't even occur to them to go through the effort)

aleph, it is not Day of the Triffids. I found the article interesting but probably won't watch the series mentioned in it.

I made this post because I try to seek out media that has representations of people with disabilities in various sorts of ways. See seemed good but a bit too high-drama for me. While I decided not to keep watching it, I was really curious about what sort of research went into the show and what the blind community may have thought about it. And then I found the article about Strechay and thought people might enjoy it.

I'd like to see a media presentation of this guy's (known as the "Blind Traveller") life.

James Holman FRS (15 October 1786 – 29 July 1857), known as the "Blind Traveller," was a British adventurer, author and social observer, best known for his writings on his extensive travels. Completely blind and experiencing pain and limited mobility, he undertook a series of solo journeys that were unprecedented both in their extent of geography and method of "human echolocation".

In 1832, Holman became the first blind person to circumnavigate the globe. He continued travelling, and by October 1846 had visited every inhabited continent.
