I thought the firepower grid was effective, I didnt understand the volumetric viz, if anyone can chime in I want to understand it. Bonus points for butterfly projection! Thanks OP.

I grew up next to a national laboratory in the 70s and 80s and I remember seeing the nuke power diagram as well as regional blast radius maps in school materials.

Love the DC/Moscow overlay, a sort of mid-century Borgesian weirdness is at work there.

It's pointing out that US and USSR are able to project world-ending power (aka nukes) anywhere on the planet at any time, so their traditional nation-state borders are an inadequate description of their area of influence/control.
