They thwarted shore access but not permanently?

If the point of posting this was to highlight residents' fears about over-tourism, the SFGate article would have been a much better choice.

“ the SFGate article would have been a much better choice.”

I have to agree with- that article, indeed the entire site is luxury yacht clickbait porn. Yuck.

I saw this boat in Alaska. It was sleek and ominous. I knew something was up when it didn’t appear on some public services that track boats, but I was clearly looking at it. It did appear on services that inform government vessels (to prevent wrecks). I’ve still yet to figure out if they were jamming cell service or if it was a quirk of Alaska. But its inconspicuousness is what made it conspicuous: the Baraba Streisand effect, I texted every local I knew.

I’ve also meant to make a post about Zuckerbergs amoral dealings on the islands…

I'm sure it will make a splendid artificial reef.

Note that the FPP is to luxurylaunches.com, not to sfgate…..
This note stands out to me: “ Designed to accommodate up to 12 guests in six luxurious suites, the yacht is serviced by a dedicated crew of up to 33 members”.
I wonder what the ‘suites’ for the staff are like?

Dubai-based Orenstein inherited his wealth, but his success was self-made. ...A medical college dropout, his life took a turn when his father’s sudden death pulled him into the family business in 1985, starting in sales and eventually shaping its future.

I don't expect luxurylaunches.com to do a warts-and-all bio for the guy, but self-made? Other descriptions are more in the "rich kid inherits dad's successful business which continues being successful with some shady shit on the side" kind of style. Even his Forbes bio mentions the whole defrauding the US military thing.

I saw this boat in Alaska. It was sleek and ominous.
It's a nice looking boat. It leans a bit too far into the Bond-villain aesthetic though.

The linked post seems like an AI summary of the SFGate article...

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if Trump declares even temporary actions like these acts of domestic terrorism. Mega-yachts and other toys of the rich will be assigned military escorts.

By one estimate, if megayachts were their own country, they would rank 110th out of 211 in carbon emissions.”

Looking up Moloka'i on Wikipedia led me to learning that Larry Ellison owns the entire island of Lanai, 6th largest of the Hawaiian archipelago.

Not to mention some very expensive racing boats. Yet his overworked employees are constantly dealing with no promotions, no cost-of-living raises, and ongoing hiring freezes.

I'd suggest that's only a presubterranean spa unless someone does something.

They keep calling this guy a "real estate" guy and I'm sure he took a lot of money that way.

But I think he took most of his money as a war profiteer. He defrauded the US Govt so bad he paid >$400 million to avoid prosecution and didn't even break a sweat.

All billionaires are sociopaths but this guy is stealing from the entire population of the US.

So fuck him in particular. Sink it indeed.

Where are those yacht-ramming orcas when we need them?

Where are those yacht-ramming orcas

I initially ready that as "yacht-rimming orcas". Which is incidentally my new sockpuppet name.

Hey guys, wait, billionaires are people just like us. They gave some money for food for the poors, and a trillionth of his net worth (Zuckerberg - puke) to a school. And it's near his 1300 acres of Kauai for god sakes, a future Nobel prize winner there.

Can anything EVER get better? It'd be nice if there was just a pause in the slide towards these vile excuses for human beings momentum toward owning everything and everyone.

And add me to the chorus that that article was beyond disgusting.
