I just got lost on a blog page by a couple of sailing nomads in the South Pacific. I'm going to start following them. It felt like a bit of sunshine and sand in the midst of a gray Ohio winter.

Somehow, I am still RSS-ignorant, although I am aware that it enables the reading of only the latest, unread entries. But I have a blog, which this aggregator rejects because apparently, I don't have a 'feed.' What's that all about? Why are my simple text pages unacceptable? What to I have to do to make the grade? Transfer everything to WordPress or Blogger or something? With 24 years of posts, that sounds daunting; and I'm not really willing to change anything now.

RSS is basically a machine-readable XML file that contains posts or sections of posts with dates and titles attached. It's easier when you have some sort of CMS automatically generating the file but you could totally generate one from an old site though you'd probably want some sort of automation to help.
Once you have such a file there's an html tag to include in your index page to tell RSS readers that the site has a feed. You'd then update it with new posts. Metafilter has RSS feeds!
Depending on what you want to do, you can either fill the whole back archives into it or just the most recent ones.
