No one is quite sure why the woolly mammoth went extinct. But science is taking steps to bring them back, starting with these woolly mice

Everyone's pretty sure that it was humans causing this extinction, along with every other extinction of pretty much every large, tasy animal.

The second link literally says it was humans. What's different about woolly mammoths is that there was some co-existance, at least until humans improved their ability to live and hunt where mammoths lived.
