Upcoming.org is a collaborative event calendar that looks like it's going to be interesting. (Reviewed here by some guy.)

aaah, wax pancakes. Is there anything they can't do?

(Also, this looks like a seriously cool idea. Wonder how well it'll scale, though, should it catch on?)

The pancake made it -- it'll scale. ;-)

Yep, that's me. I made Upcoming.org, so if you don't like it, you know who to blame. (If you have criticisms or comments about the project, feel free to e-mail me directly rather than nitpick here.)

what about when people start filling it with garbage? do people think that will happen?

rhyax: waxpancake said he planned to address that by adding a self-moderation system so such crapfloods can be shot down.

the formatting of all the pages seems screwy in IE. the body of text on the left appears below the right-hand side bar, not to the left of it.

IE is screwy. ;) Love the squidfingers background patterns.

carfilhiot: Are you running at a particularly low resolution? It should work fine in IE at 1024x768 and up.

Man, nice waxy! Me and another mefi member (bshort) have been toying with an idea like this for some time. Our idea had a similar XML/RSS backend, but also an informaiton visualization front end. We worked on an idea for a modified "starfield" (pic here) dynamic query display, actually.

I'm so excited I'm taking this offline!

Me also have been studying grammar in my spare time.

This is a nice site and, once it reaches critical mass, should be great for organising get-togethers of all kinds. The interface is nice and clean, with minimal graphics. I like.

I guess the big challenge is trying to develop ways for the community to moderate and remove garbage events. Someone already added "Sex with Me" in "My Bedroom" as an event and venue.

zpousman speaks the truth. What I'd really like to see is a site like Upcoming that also allows import into PIMs via vCal or some sort of other standard.

Actually, what I really want is Chandler, but with a wiki.
