Fandom is fucking funny

Love the shows, beware the fans. That seems to be the gist of fandom_wank. And because God knows lunacy isn't limited to fandom, on the seventh day, God created spinoffs. Mock. Mockmockmock. Mockity-mock-mock.
Negotiating through these baffling sites...and the anti-baby rants...jeez. All hail the Internet!

I don't get it. What the hell are these folks on about?

Well, UKnowForKids, once upon a time, about a metric ton of folks decided to unite under the banner of their preferred media- television shows, films, books... and once united under the banner of their preferred media, they proceeded to eat each other alive, because nothing says "I love Harry Potter" like a good flamewar in the morning.

Stupidity amuses me.
I love these communities. There's nothing like a nice round mocking to start your day.
And they inspire me to do really mean blog posts...

What's with the density of anime "Bitch are you for real?" avatars?

Just thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth here because I've been all over the fanfiction post like [insert your favourite metaphor here]. Apparently some people get off on this stuff. Reading people getting bitchy at each other over, for example, whether Elijah Wood is or is not actually gay, is just not my thing. I just like to read the occasional amusing piece of fanfiction - other people invest their whole lives into proving that they're more loyal fans or whatever than the next person. If that's what it takes for me to be a Real Fan, thanks but I'll just be a lurker.
Thank you for posting these - it's good to get more than one side of the fandom issue.

Goddamn, I thought I'd be the one to post the fandom wank post! But then I went "no, no, I couldn't. I'm buried up to my neck in fandom wankery!" and I resisted. And someone beat me to it! Go funky helix!

It's one of fandom wank's injokes. There are many. Think of it as the fandom wank pony.

There are a couple in-joke icons. "Bitch are you for real?" Also: "What the shit is this?" and "Okay!" Most come about after dealing with trolls as a community.

Also "Bitch, please!" Plenty of in-jokes.
I'm a quiet regular on fandom_wank. It lets me get my quota of personal drama out of the way in private. You read a couple of those, and suddenly you don't feel like joining in to the ones you stumble on in your own fannish endeavors. Plus, a lot of the comments are pretty funny.
Fandom_Wank started on livejournal, and hurt enough feelings it got banned for "TOS" violations. It migrated to blurty, had some similar problems, then wound up at journalfen, as the owner of journalfen is f_w friendly. It's been around for a good long time.
Part of the attraction is that much of fandom is dominated by the culture of nice (punctuated by occasional kerfuffles). Any comment that could be construed as negative gets pigpiled on. So, on f_w, you can be as mean and sarcastic as you like, and it's ok.
