To all who wondered about this Man Vs. Grizzy -- the answer needed this grizzly bear suit from ebay . The thread, by the way, was one of the funniest Ask MeFi threads I've ever read. And the bearsuit? Well, that's just crazy-insane.
Project Grizzly is an awesome [mock] documentary about this guy. It is fascinating to what lengths people satiate their psychosis [and use big words].

I misspoke - I cannot decide whether or not Project Grizzly is a documentary or a mockumentary.

I've met the man, and he is certifiably loco. He's simultaneously a pariah and local hero back in my hometown of North Bay.

Was the suit ever actually tested against a real, live grizzly?

Project Grizzly is a 100% real documentary. Troy Hurtubise is a real person, who is really obsessed with the idea of fighting grizzly bears face-to-face.

Anybody ever seen the video of the first time the Craigheads tranqed a Grizzly sow? The bear got up, charged their Fairlane stationwagon, and head butted it, putting a dent the size of Idaho in the side. Suit or no suit, taking on a Grizzly in anything less than a Battlemech is stupidity.

So... he built this suit to just observe? And....not to kick ass? If I want to observe some bears, I'll go to a damned zoo. But...if I wanted to kick a bunch of bear ass (with, say...a knife) I'd build a large titanium, suit with a screen and cooling system. With no blueprints.
But..maybe that's just me.

OK; you guys have got to see Project Grizzly: all of these concerns are addressed. Suffice it to say, the suit was thoroughly tested. Though actual bears were unavailable for the testing, appropriate surrogates (35 mph trucks, arrows shot from high-power hunting bows, biker gangs armed with lead pipes, etc.) were found. And the suit was definitely designed for combat; if not a knife fight, at least a nice wrestling match. There are, however, mobility issues associated with such a thick suit of armor.

What about strength issues? Does the suit give you the strength of ten men (without having to worry about that purity of heart stuff)?

The best moment in Project Grizzly (and there are many great ones, like the swinging log, and the pickup truck, and the minor problem of the inability to get back on your feet if you fall over while wearing the anti-bear suit) has got to be Troy shaving with a Bowie knife. The most (un/intentionally) funny documentary I have ever seen.
