The Troggs Tapes

Put some fairy dust on the bastard! An unknown studio engineer made a huge contribution to the world when he recorded this juvenile squabble among the members of a British Invasion band. Their bickering about the drum sound in the follow-up to their hit single "With A Girl Like You" inspired "This Is Spinal Tap."

what a bunch of assholes. it would be funnier if it wasn't so reminscent of nearly every recording session i've ever had to suffer thru'. (outside of children's cds and film sdtrks)

anyway, the moment exene cervenka and X recorded wild thing the troggs lost any relevancy they ever had.

I've always wondered why X bothered to release their version of Wild Thing>. It sounds completely like some 80s LA hair band (Warrant?). I have loved X since my sister gave me her copy of Under the Big Black Sun in 1982, but that version of Wild Thing is like nails on a chalk board to me. I always assumed they did it as a joke until I remembered that it made it onto the Major League soundtrack.

Step off the Troggs. Their recording is still one of the all time great covers of "Louie Louie".

Just in case anyone gives a f*#%, the Troggs ultimately opted to go with neither strings nor brass on the track.

Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba-ba.

I always assumed they did it as a joke...

If I recall correctly, in the liner notes to Beyond and Back John Doe said, 'It seemed like a good idea at the time.'

Um, I like X just fine, but do not disrespect the Troggs. 60's punk almost always bulldozes the latter day stuff, IMHO.

Respect the founders.

Not to derail the thread, but, speaking of X, years ago when I was living in New Orleans X came to town on their Under the Big Black Sun tour. The club where they played rented my roomates lights and I went along to help him set them up. The band was there setting up, too. At one point I sat and spoke with John Doe for a few minutes about gear. He was nice as he could be. Who could have known what he would go on to? That night at the show Exene was high as a kite. I thought she was asleep on her feet, but she didn't miss a cue.
