Democracy 2004 - Earlier this year, Richard Avedon decided that he would try to capture a sense of the country in the midst of a crucial Presidential election campaign. These are the (unfinished, but wonderful) results.
Jon Stewart. The official MeFi highlight reel, for those who are too lazy to browse through the whole series.

This woman, epitomizes the ideal of the Democratic Party to me. Worn and weathered, yet still open, optimistic and tough.
We took a beating yesterday and today, but I'm still proud to be a Democrat. Keep the faith!

WTF? Please tell me that the conventions are "costume only" events, please.
WTF II? Please. Because otherwise these two fellows make no sense to me at all.
Bill Gates has a fetish for his own breasts? Or is he telling us we can all suck his tit?
Nasty. What's up her ass that she looks so damn sour? Someone brave please give her a hug, k?

i stand to witness deborah's utterance.
For what it may be worth, these photos made me weep, before the election. They remind me of Victorian remembrance photos.

Wonderful. The first picture shows hopelessness, the last one hope.
Great work, greast link. Thanks.

Also, that's too much of an honor for O'Reilly to be seen through the
lens of Avedon -- he's probably the only one in the series that
doesn't diserve it. Somehow, he looks like an ass.

Yeah, I was at work for that one, too. It's less of a big deal in Tokyo, though.
