Sweet Jesus that is cool. I wish they'd shown the gnashing stainless steel mouthparts in more detail, though.

Holy hell, and I thought the walking robots in Fast Cheap and Out of Control were something special.

Coming soon to a police department near you. Great for crowd control!

Ha! A Finnish innovation! Someday we shall rule the earth with our walking machines!
I remember seeing this on the news sometimes in the 90's. The basic research into this was heavily funded by the Finnish Government.
It is a great invention. The footprint it leaves in forests is minimal compared to the traditional wheeled machines. A more ecological way of cutting forests is possible.

I think I first saw this about 5 years back. That's because I'm way hipper to Forestry Fashion than you lot, of course. Nyah.

Oh, they will. Or something like them will. We're way too good at building our own replacements for galloping robots to *not* happen.

Walking hulks of steel and actuators....This thing takes me back to misspent summer days and BattleTech dreams.
Masumane Shirow drew something similar to this in his manga....the Fuchikomas and those massive legged tanks sure give some food for thought.
I'm sure General Dynamics would love to get in on the whole "mecha" weaponry platforms. Image the terror caused by insectoid mecha tanks swarming an insurgent city.
Lets hope it just stays a distant horrible damn nightmare.

Amazing how we're all so quick to imagine horrifying robot destruction scenarios. Prescience?
