Get Perpendicular! (flash, sound, crossdressing bits)
Hitachi introduces their new magnetic storage tech in this groovy 'toon.

That's fun! Surprisingly so for a corporate production. And the tech described is neato too. Good post.

Hm, actually, that was cool. A significant advance in data storage presented as Schoolhouse Rock.

Corporate Shi-- ah, hell, I don't have the heart. That was too awesome. Sort of Tron (with its personified bits) meets Schoolhouse Rock.
orthogonality should have something to say about this.

How awesome. So here's what I see for the next episode. We send the Schoolhouse Rock Bill for a Hitachi Chip Queer Eye-style makeover! With a disco dancing bill, the government will be revolutionized!!!

I don't get it. If "flipping" has to do with something's magnetic poles changing places after being crowded together, how does being perpendicular matter? I get how it makes more space, but I don't get how it is supposed to prevent data-loss.

ontic - if going to a perpendicular orientation creates more space, then you don't need to crowd them together as tightly to put more in, so you've sort of answered your own question.

When they're squashed, don't they align with each other? If they're perpendicular then they won't align; they can't.

I considered posting this, but was sure the response would be "Corporate ads are lousy FPP's".

10x capacity increase on small hard drives sounds good to me, but the Schoolhouse Rock tribute/thievery sucked.
