See, this is what happens when you fight sarcasm with sarcasm.

haven't yet listened to this one, but i've had 'better ask smebody' for awhile now & i like it a lot. i'm not sure if cyphill is busting on these montreal boys or on the beasties, but i know i don't get it.

I wasn't busting on anybody, I was merely noting a similarity in the style. I like the Beastie Boys and the linked song wasn't bad. I'm not exactly sure how my comment was interpreted as an insult but in the future I'll be sure to put all my sarcastic statements in italics, thereby preventing any further problems.

Well this goes some way to proving my theory that in every country there exists a band similar to The Beastie Boys.

Could someone please add Beastie Boys to my tags? And maybe put Eminem and Elvis there as well.

Oh, and here are the (apparantly) relevent MetaFilter Beastie Boy Threads since day one to bring the rest of the users up to speed. One of them was even mine and I didn't think to reference it!

cyphill: I'm not exactly sure how my comment was interpreted as an insult

i wans't sure how to take it. my first take--given the way it was framed--was that skratch bastid et al were simply beastie wannabes.

but, that reading could have been to harsh--maybe, as you said, you were simply noticing the similarity in style (although i think a lot of white rappers get that comparison).

anyway, like i said--i didn't get the comment, but your further explanation helped. thanks

Never heard of them before - enjoyed the video/song. Thanks for the link.

boost ventilator: I like the song and the video. It's just something I've observed from watching music video channels while travelling, there's always a band that's similar to The Beastie Boys. Doesn't make them bad, just goes to show that The Beasties created some sort of universal archetype.

There's also always a Bruce Springsteen figure.

I will forever hate Skratch Bastid for stealing my scuba certification.

Jay Lapeyre's the P.I.M.P. of Winnipeg, yo.

Lapeyre's also known as DJ 6:59, so that's a neat bit of tagging there at the end of the video.

Word!

Jay Lapeyre once filmed part of a Pip Skid video ("Hypochondriac") in my living room and kitchen. I got to be in another scene in the video, but I don't think I made the final cut: I was filmed standing in a Shopper's Drug Mart wearing a Velociraptor mask and a "Mobb Deep Rules" t-shirt.
