Simpsons shorts from The Tracey Ullman Show, 1987-1989. [(Low-quality RealMedia I'm afraid.]
Tracy Ullman is a comedy goddess; I can't believe what low exposure she has compared to others of far lesser stature.

jonmc: you're not alone. #1 on my Celebrities To Nail list. Especially if she's made up like the Queen but talking like the Australian stuntwoman.

She's somewhere in my top 20. But I like that she's not lusted after by the masses, (like my other favorites Lesley Boone and Marissa Jaret Winokur), it makes the fantasy seem that much more attainable.

although if internet porn girls count as celebrities, dariya(NSFW) is number one on the list. She (like bacon) is proofthat there is a God, and that he loves us.

The best part is that Maggie talks. Twice.

One of my few, happy, family-centered memories between the ages of 8 and 18 was catching the FAMILY PORTRAIT episode-let of The Simpsons. I would tape the Tracey Ullman show pretty much every week. So I was watching a tape of this one after school one day and when it came to the last scene, the one where Homer tries to strangle Bart, I think I must have called to one of my siblings to come see it. I remember, though, all four of us ended up gathered around the TV, rewinding the tape, watching the scene, howling with laughter at the final line - "You watch your mouth, you little smart ass!" - and then rewinding the tape to watch it again. For months, we repeated the line to one another, usually just managing to get it out before cracking up.

Oops. I misremembered some of the details from the cartoon. For instance, the "smart ass" line isn't the last. But still; fond memories.

Aren't these shorts also included in the Simpsons season 1 DVD set?

I recall seeing the "Family Therapy" short in the movie theater after the preview reel and before the film "War of the Roses". This was my first exposure to the Simpsons. The episode seemed a lot funnier then than now, I must say.
