Shelby Foote RIP

Shelby Foote died on Monday. Somehow I missed this, and I assume others will have as well.
Booktv will rebroadcast a lengthy interview with him July 2. Downloads available as well.
The Civil War by Ken Burns would have just been another Powerpoint slide show without Mr. Foote's on-camera input.

I haven't tackled the Civil War trilogy yet, but his book of correspondence with Walker Percy is wonderful (especially if you like writer shop talk).

He was the epitome of the Southern gent. And boy, did he have a way with words.
