As supreme monarch, I've had to make the tough decisions.

King Mike for Monarch NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg stars in a political ad parody. From the Inner Circle, via YouTube.
Inner Circle is a dinner/roast sponsored by local New York City journalists with proceeds going to a charity.
Usually the journalists roast the politicians and the politicians roast the journalists. I think there is something similar for national level politicians in Washington D.C.

Damnit, I skipped out on Inner Circle this year. For shame.

Oops, sorry.
Here are some news accounts of the Inner Circle dinner, an annual political event where pols and journalists make fun of each other. I just thought the ad was amusing.

Not only is Mike Bloomberg mayor, he is one of the richest guys in NYC. It must be nice to be king.... and take your jet to your own island every weekend ... and not tell the press where you are going... though I have to say, even if the 311 NYC phone help line was the only thing he had accomplished (which its not) he would be cool - in a nerdy kinda way. (Plus, when he first ran for mayor of NYC, he was an admitted Red Sox fan !)

Speaking of Mike, there was an interesting story floating around about his companion/ladyfriend, Diana Taylor recently. Apparently, after a successful career of her own, Taylor was set to be nominated as chairwoman of the FDIC in Washington. (She is currently the New York State Banking Supervisor)
That is, until Mike started bashing the lax gun rules that allowed guns to flow into NY from other states.... and somehow her nomination, ...um ... disappeared ?

this is a great video, but it doesn't change the fact that one of the first things bloomberg did when he took office was close schools and firehouses to pay for backpack searches.
he also supported the mta when they
a) counterfeited their accounting records to get more money from the city.
b) raised the fare, using these counterfeit records to justify it.
c) then "found" over a billion dollars in surplus funds which they did not give back to the city. nor did they lower the fare back.
oh, and something funny about koch's appearance:
he used to be famous for saying "how am I doin'?" when he was Mayor. As in "How am I doin' as your mayor, new york?" So him saying "we did good," is pretty funny.

shmegegge: Yeah, the whole MTA thing is a mess, but bear in mind that Bloomberg doesn't have as much power as he'd like over it (state agency) and he knows it. Not that he couldn't have done more/better but Pataki is equally at fault, if not more so.

oh, don't you fret, Skorgu. Every day, during my lunch break, I spend 5 minutes just standing outside, facing toward albany and shaking an angry fist in pataki's direction. I know he can feel my ire, too.
