The 'Star Wars' Traveler: I'm not really a 'Star Wars' geek, so I had no idea that the Tatooine scenes were shot in Tunisia. Instead of repairing those units on the South Ridge, perhaps you feel the need to visit visit Obi Wan Kenobi? Maybe you need to jam to some space jazz at the Cantina (oota goota, Solo?)? Maybe you will see a krayt dragon skeleton in the Dune Sea. Just watch out for the sand crawlers.

Interesting. I especially liked the insane eye for detail (or knowledge of filming locations), on this page, where it's pointed out that the exact same position, with a different zoom, was used to represent two different locations in the movie.

He's made trips to Tunisia, Italy, and Norway, but can't seem to make the trip from Seattle to northern California to visit the Endor locations?

Also, someone needs to learn to use JPEG (or PNG).

Just to clarify, and I might be wrong about this but... I was told that at least in episode IV, the shots were made in Namibia.

pwb503 : "I was told that at least in episode IV, the shots were made in Namibia."

If you mean all the shots, certainly not. Almost all were in Tunisia. If you mean any shots...well, I dunno. I'm not so versed in Star Wars filming.

Is this the same Gus Lopez whose home is a veritable Star Wars shrine...and who also is a MeFi member?

Pity, i brought up the coordinates to the Cantina (33° 43' 26" N, 10° 44' 59" E) in Google Earth. Unfortunately the resolution is low enough that you really can't make out the buildings.

Great post though.
