Oh, the huge manatee! Newsfilter/Manatee filter. A visitor to the Hudson River: "The manatee has been spotted at 23rd Street near Chelsea Piers, West 125th Street, and later in Westchester County. It appeared to be healthy." More here.
It must've moved up to Westchester when the seals moved in and ruined the nieghborhood.

Hopefully he'll have a more pleasant visit than the coyote or those hawks.

Hey did you notice the author of the article's middle initial is 8?
I want to see the manatee, but I'm chained to my desk in midtown!

Isn't it fortuitous that the Hudson River estuary is warm enough for manatees this year? A long term ecological trend, perhaps?

Manatees often congregate near power plants, which warm the waters. Some have become reliant on this source of unnatural heat and have ceased migrating to warmer waters. (from Wikipedia)

Has anyone gotten a picture of this Hudson manatee? The linked articles seem to have stock manatee photos, not this particular critter.

Is it bad that I just got the title now, after looking at Metafilter a number of times today.
It was funny, in a "I want to hit you because of your horrible pun" kind of way.

I'm surprised the poor critter made it as far north as 125. Filthy friggin Hudson, this guy doesn't stand a chance. Although he did make it up the Jersey Shore...
