The Trailer Mash

The Trailer Mash is the spot for movie trailer recuts and mashups. We've done the subject before, but now the subject has its own blog. Current new favorites: Garden State as a murder thriller and School of Rock as a kidnap film. [via mefi projects]
C For Cookie just made me bust out laughing in the middle of the office...

I think I've heard that song in Toy Story: Requiem somewhere before.

Ha! Way to link School of Rock. I though it was a mistake, but no.

Brainy: Brad Sucks is great, but I wish I could track down a copy of that specific remix.

When they redo America: Freedom to Facism as a pro-taxation message....then I'll send love their way.

I just watched the Garden State mashup and it's incredible what a thumping, crescendoing orchestral soundtrack will do to a trailer. I suppose it's the same as introducing a sci-fi film, or an art movie about seventeenth century Europe, with a booming voice saying "It is a period of civil war..." Makes you wonder what the scope for a non-formulaic trailer might be, and whether it would even sell the film given how conditioned we are to accepting certain genres.

watching these again just made me realize how great Shining was and how "2nd rate imitation" everything since has seemed to me. It's hard to overestimate the importance of a great, original idea.
