Yeah, sorry another bloody Salon story but wait, this one's different:
Salon outlives its predicted date with Death by more than a week!
Of course it might have something to do with the erroneous data that they lodged with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission
Watch this space! When a company runs out of money something has to happen.

didn't they just strike a deal with intel as a content provider? or does that just hasten the end :)

Interesting list. Some I almost wish I were in a condition to help along, if you know what I mean.

Why are you enjoying the prospect of Salon's demise? There are things I don't like about the site, but it's still a great source of political analysis, technology reporting and odd lifestyle features.

No one was talking about Salon, rcade. At least I wasn't. It was a few of the other companies on the list whose departure from this world I wouldn't regret (e.g. netRadio).

Although I wouldn't "enjoy" the demise of Salon, I can't say it would move me one way or another. I don't read it on anything like a regular basis. If it were to happen, on the bright side, it would mean one less outlet for Todd Gitlin -- which is a consolation of sorts.

Opps, that's 'No one was talking about enjoying the demise of Salon...'

I'm losing phrases left and right.

Salon outlived its deathdate because they fired a big chunk of their staff. People are the most expensive part of any business; find out a way to get rid of them and you can coast for years.

That question was for Lagado. I know why some right-wingers want it to disappear, since many of its writers are liberals, but I don't see many reasons for other folks to cheer for its downfall.

rcade, my feelings about Salon are not terribly strong.

I'm not a liberal. I don't read it. Frankly, I'll admit it, I'm only interested in its fate from a sort of morbid deathpool perspective.

While it may have the odd good article, I thought its blindness during the election campaign demonstrated that it was a really lousy source for "political analysis".

I think partisan journals serve a useful function. Salon uncovered a lot of stuff that was followed up on by other publications during the impeachment scandal and the presidential election. Though it is not a balanced publication, it is often interesting. (Before anyone thinks this is strictly a case of my bias showing -- I like the Wall Street Journal's crazed right-wing opinion section, too.)

We need Salon, if only for Tom the Dancing Bug.
