(I think it probably has to do with the fact that so much meaning is lost when spoken communication is condensed into an alphabet. You lose inflection, gestures and other various factors one can best call feel or atmosphere. I remember very well a conversation I had with a Russian, Albanian and Argentinian about the Kursk submarine disaster, which was unfolding that summer. It was halting at first, but quite complicated matters got discussed. And emotional too. The Russian had friends in the navy.)

While travelling I was hanging out with a french guy, a swedish girl, and an American guy (I'm Canadian). English was our only common language so that's what we spoke. but when the American and I would start chatting amongst ourselves, the french and swede couldn't keep up. we were using all kinds of slang, complex verrb tenses, vocabulary, and so on.
they said they couldn't understand us beecause we weren't speaking 'globish'. what's globish? it's the new universal, gloabl language that just about everybody (or so it seems) speaks: broken English. or, to be kind, simple English. just present and past tense, clear simple words, and no slang. enough to communicate and nothing more.

This topic hurt my mind about half way through. Bad europanto! So - what is Spanglish then? I have to get me some Berlitz tapes, make a mash up and voila!

captaincrouton: I wonder if europanto is more easily understood in verbally or in text. In its written form you can get clues from spelling, but some many words that sound the same but mean different things.
Text is always easier, for me, I think because you have time to interpret and look at words. Speech is relatively quick.
The solution for speech though is to just shout loudly until someone gets the point.

It reads a bit like the macaronic language which Pepys used for some of his naughty bits, or Charles Leland for more respectable purposes:

Poem a Europanto
Bambina at de tor d'enfer
Asks warum on sent sie there.
"Hace ik fait ein grosse crime?"
Sagt Lucifer, fuego-clad:
"No, c'est pas what du done hat
Ton coeur ist noble, das I deem
Mais el mundo is corrumpé!
Tout las peuples have lost ihr way
Und sie have sent tu in their name.
Donc hör mi jetzt, here est le deal:
Ik want nur ton reine ziel
And le monde sera frei from blame."
"Ja, up ton arsch!" elle schnell rejoins
Con fuerza kicked him in the loin
Smiled, et simple: walked away.
