Dammit, that was the best converted school bus since "Further". This makes me sad.

On playa this year I talked to one of her crew, who mentioned that La Contessa needed a lot of repairs, and that they were having trouble getting everyone to commit to paying for it.
Take it with a grain of salt, but that ship always was running aground out there, and many times was not as mobile as she looked. I suspect the burning was intentional.

La = The, FYI. "The La Contessa" has one 'The' too many.
Too bad about the burninating.

I suspect foul play. It's my belief that one of our members couldn't stand the competition.
Book 'em Dano.

That's just so sad. I'll miss seeing her emerge from the playa dust, drunken pirates hanging from the mast.

She was a thing of beauty.
Here are a few photos of her during the daytime in 2005.

At the risk of marginalizing the post, Burning Man is all about ephemerality (is that even a word?). Create beauty. Revel in it. Watch it pass, beautifully.
Granted, this was possibly a somewhat ignoble death, but perhaps not. Maybe its operators or merely admirers decided that it should not go quietly into that dark night and gave it the final respect it deserved.
Don't know. Just saying that's maybe a more apt eulogy.

ephemeral, yes. but now there's a burned out bus and a bunch of metal bits sitting in a dusty field.

Maybe include a tag 'burning man' so those of us who don't give a flying shit about what some people from the Bay do in the desert won't have to read these ceaseless burning man advertisements.
