The slashdot random story generator. Think slashdot is not updating often enough. Here's your answer :)
Can a Metafilter random story generator be far behind?
Ralph Nader on Pyra's business model
Dubya's new "webbleblog"
Napster: The Movie
...and so forth.

Naw; you can't make fun of Metafilter nearly as effectively. Does anyone even *read* Slashdot regularly anymore? I quit once it got 'cool'.

It got 'cool'? I thought it just got boring and predictable.

Aww, so you guys don't believe, as Rolling Stone said in its Rob Malda interview, that Holland, MI is the center of the digital revolution? I'm heartbroken. I guess this means back to the old Calvinist stereotypes.

I still find Slashdot valuable, though I don't waste much time there. Go to your preferences. First, choose Light mode so you don't have to wait for the cute graphics. Then go to Customize Comments. Sort order Highest Scores First. Threshold +3. Highlight Threshold +4. I also like keeping Reparent Highly Rated checked. I also rarely check just-posted articles.
This allows me to see only the really, really good comments. If for some reason a post interests me a little mroe, I can always change it on the fly to +2 or just click the "comments below threshold" link. But I only do that once a day or so.
Even so, I still ignore most of the play-by-play politics (US, Columbine-era, Linux, Copyright, whatever) in favor of the sometimes really interesting comments from people close to the subject matter at hand.

I got bored of the comments before I got bored of the news posts. I hit slashdot almost daily still because they really do post some interesting links still. I almost never bother with the comments, because most of the articles I tend to read are the technology ones. If there's something I want peoples' opinions on, I'll look here or at K5 before the /. comments.
True, the +4 ones are usually an interesting addition, but it's such a pain in the ass when they're responding to earlier comments, and you have to wade through to follow the thread and get the context of the +4.
