Photos of animals posed as humans

Harry Whittier Frees — "These unusual photographs of real animals were made possible only by patient, unfailing kindness on the part of the photographer at all times."
Before I read anything on the website I had no idea they were "unsettling." I just thought they were cute. Heck, I even want to pet the photographer on the head and tell him he did a good job, and he's a good boy.

Well, it's good to know that nearly 90 years later, cats still make the same sad face when you put them in clothes.
Why do you hate me?

Those little outfits look so uncomfortable! I guess it could be worse, though.

In this picture the animals have a bandage wrapped sagitally around their heads - I've also seen similar setups for people with toothaches around the same era.
How does a bandage around their head help toothaches?!

Imagine how sad they'd be if they realized they were going to die long before the creation of Hotdoll.

Puppies and kitties are easier to pose if you put them in the freezer for a few minutes. Same thing with hobos and hookers.

In the past I've assumed that there was some sort of poultice underneath, or perhaps a hot/cold pack of some sort -- or that it was in place to minimize jaw movement. (Never having had a toothache, I don't know if that would help...?)
But -- now I want to know, too. Anybody?
