Luckily it's been posted that many times before. I wonder if Courtney Love's piece is in the link too?

The "Effect of File Sharing on Record Sales" article reminds me of a Dick Guindon cartoon from the early 80's showing a band on stage saying something along the line of "...and now we'd like to talk about declining record sales and the dangers of video games." Remember when cheap cassettes and competition from crappy video games were all the record companies had to worry about?

Yup, smackfu, sure is. And every time someone calls her a crackwhore murdering slut, I ask them if they've heard of or read that essay, or could replicate that (don't get many responses, funnily enough). Great stuff.
Good ammunition on why these dinosaurs deserve the pain they're getting (the RIAA). Great find.

And yet a few bands do end up with big bucks. So when is the big bucks point?
(I have no doubt that the RIAA is a buch of ass-munchers and that your average act gets fucked sideways. I'm just curious how big you have to be to get to be Britney, Nick Mason or Paul McCartney.)

When I first heard about Courtney Love's stand against piracy, I tracked down one of the articles she wrote—and lo and behold, it was practically Steve Albini's article, reprocessed and regurgitated. I'm sure Love gets way more flak than she deserves for her various indiscretions, but I thought it was a bit unfortunate when she got all the credit for the balance sheet that someone else laid out first. Hell, she even makes the same crack about the band making more money if they'd worked at a 7-11.

Dunno why they didn't just link to the Negativland version, which is somewhat easier to look at.

So. What am I missing? Anyone got a non-broken link? I was actually really interested in that...

I love the smell of burning RIAA-flesh in the morning. Thanks Dr. Wu.
