Flamenco guitarists on YouTube: Paco de Lucia, Vicente Amigo, Sabicas, Niño Ricardo, Manolo Sanlucar, Serranito, Tomatito, Paco Peña, Carlos Montoya, Gerardo Nuñez, Diego Del Gastor, and of course, the legendary Segovia.
BTW -- Charo received the "Female Pop Album of the Year" award at the Billboard International Latin Music Conference for her 1995 flamenco inspired platinum album, "Guitar Passion."

A good way to read Metafilter: click one of these links into another tab, then listen to some great guitar playing while continuing to read Metafilter.
Oops, Judge Judy just wrecked it!

I found it's more interesting if you tab open all the links. Chaos!

Is Segovia really flamenco, though? I've always thought of him as a classical guitarist.
Regardless, though, this is some fantastic stuff.

*smacks head*
damn, I forgot Charo!
And arto is right of course, Segovia really was a classical guitarist, though he did have some flamenco roots. But more importantly, I just like the clip and wanted to include a bit of the maestro.

So enjoyed those, especially Montoya. wow.
Went to see separate performances of both Segovia and Casals as a kid, sitting in awe of their passionate, superb and very Spanish virtuosity.
"Segovia claimed that he "rescued the guitar from the hands of flamenco Gypsies", and he built up a classical repertoire to give it a place in concert halls."

Great post, beautiful music. Here's Carlos Montoya again, hitting "Malaguena", my favorite flamenco song. I can play the first parts but when he starts kicking Eddie Who's butt, I just pee myself.
I used to have a recording of Carlos playing this with dancers that was just insane. I couldn't find any good dancing vids BTW. Thanks again for the post!

Cheers for this.
And no, Andrés Segovia isn't usually considered to be a flamenco player.

I always find that flamenco is missing something without the singing.
