More cephalopodic developments

Not to be outdone by the appearance of the Octosquid (previously), other cephalopods have undearthed 900-year-old hidden treasures from the Koryo Dynasty and are taking up residence in the Monterey Bay (Bugmenot works for this last link). Squirrels are also getting in on the action.

In this case, apparently, possession is 9/10 in the maw.

Hey, is it just me, or do you guys all get disturbing, multi-day erections if you think about the octosquid too much?

These are really neat stories, thank you for sharing. So often, we get a distorted view of the past, no matter how carefully we excavate. Time takes its toll; Rome looks like it was all pristine marble instead of raucously painted. Seeing those 900 year old plates, shining, smooth, unbroken... it's breathtaking.

Also, what's up with the new bounty-hunters? Squid, squirrels ... what next, David L. Lander as Indiana Jones?

Whoops, this was supposed to be the first link in this post.

Only if a de-beaking operation appears very early in the thinking.

Some more non-animal-related June/July archaeological findings of note (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).
