I was glad yesterday when I saw the NYT ran an obit for him.

My cry of grief is pitched at 200 to 400 Hz modulated at 1 Hz, interrupted every 6 seconds for .5 seconds.

He was a character, although he himself did not appear, in the Twin Cities-based Web short film series Chasing Windmills, in which I did appear, but was not a character.
His death is genuinely being mourned here in the Twin Cities, which usually does not have much use for weirdos.

I read the NY Times obit yesterday; very interesting stuff on someone I knew mostly from one-off comments and mentions in Steve Wozniak's autobiography.

Huh. I felt almost like I knew him after reading the infamous Esquire article.

I am a child of the Zzzzyzzerrific Funline. Much time was spent listening to his kooky rants (and they were rants - I don't know how he got the answering machine tape to go so long) and I called frequently to hear updates. It was one of those staples you have for a little while as a kid, find something else and move on. But when I heard of his passing, another little piece of my youth went with him.

I am very sad that in the six years I lived in St. Paul in the nineties, I never heard about Joybubbles. He sounds like the kind of person I really would have admired. And he's got just the best name.
