Miss Rockaway Armada. A photonarrative.
Related: missrockaway.org (the raft itself); Flickr; NY Times article. More Swoon; more Chicken; more Polaroid Kidd. To set the mood there are the lyrics to Sailing Down My Golden River.

I want to go there and be ten years old and have adventures. And I'd like Mark Twain to narrate.

That original link photo looks exactly like my long-cherished inner image of the Duke's boat. (The Duke and King had a boat of some kind, right?) (Don't tell me if they didn't, I want to keep cherishing my inner image.)

Wfrgms, the Arch is a National Monument. Therefore, we get the NPS rolling around with Hummers and the occasional overzealous park ranger harrassing people about their camera gear. Um, what else was I gonna do on the arch grounds besides take pictures - lick the fucking monument? During one of the free concerts they have on the arch grounds, a friend of a friend peed on the bushes instead of pissing himself in line for the portajohn. He's now on the Federal Sex Offenders list.

The follow-up was lush, ftrain. Polaroid Kidd is so tight.

Weird. I was reminded of the junk shop in "Garden State" for a moment. I'll probably forget about this by tomorrow, too.

That boat makes the baby OSHA cry.
Perhaps not the right organization, but still..

The story of the coastguard repeatedly trying to help them out was amazingly cool, especially after all the CG bumbling that's coming to light around here. I also knew an artist called Jen Kitchen, though I can't really tell if this is her or not- I haven't seen her since I gave her a ride to Burning Man in 1996.
Anyway, cool post- some lovely pics.
