Verity Lambert dies.

Verity Lambert dies. Verity was amongst other things the first producer of Doctor Who and essentially co-created the series along with writer Sydney Newman and the pilot director Waris Hussein. She would later have a hand in bringing everything from Minder to Jonathan Creek to the screen.
Worth noting how rare it was in the sixties to have a female producer at the BBC and although Sydney was dead against having bug eyed monsters in the series, she convinced him that this idea that Terry Nation was having about something called Daleks would be a really good thing to do.

I liked that in the recent Human Nature episode of Doctor Who, in which the Doctor gave himself false memories of a human life, his parents were Verity and Sydney.
A solid . for this one.

There was a lovely moment in the last series, in the episode 'Human Nature', where the Doctor - temporarily human - talked about his parents, named Sydney and Verity. A touching little tribute from the current crew to the originators.

The first female producer at the BBC--and it was still the early 60s then--you go, Verity! (and Verity is such a great name, no?) : >
