Transformation

Nona Hendryx (wiki) founding member of Labelle went on to a solo career that included working with The Talking Heads, Material, and Laurie Anderson. Her album Nona (produced by Laswell) featured the club hit Transformation which still sounds 20 years ahead of its time even though it was recorded in 1983. Here she is rocking the house live at the Apollo with Why Should I Cry and making your spirit soar with Winds of Change [warning: one or more of these videos may contain a keytar]

Lady Marmalade has always been one of my favourite records.

I even forgave Aguilera, Maya and that other lot for the cover. Admittedly, only when I 'd seen the video...

In the final song "Midnight Radio" from the rock musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch", one section of the lyrics long left me puzzled:

"Here's to Patti
And Tina
And Yoko
Aretha
And to Nona
And Nico
And me..."

I knew who all of the first names were referring to -- Patti Smith, Tina Turner, Yoko Ono, Aretha Franklin, Nico...well, just Nico... -- except for Nona. But now I see that she deserved to be in the list, too, even if she's not as well known as the others. Thanks for the post.

I saw Nona live way back in--man, it must have been 1984. Lord have mercy! The show was stunning--it's still in my list of favorites. It was at the Channel in Boston. "Keep it Confidential" is another great song from that album.

It's just Talking Heads.

Unless it refers to Nona Gaye, who is significantly less deserving.
