I tried to discuss the rumors about Barack Obama being Muslim or not American enough to be elected as President on a political site and was deleted. I do think rumors need to be dissected, methodically, logically and backed up with credible data before they spread. Ignoring rumors, unfortunately, don't make them go away.
And so I'm glad for your post. I think it will help those people who have been misinformed.

I was working on a Obama widget that I will get done at some point (maybe).
It was supposed to be Obama facts, since you know, people seem to forget things so easily.
It's not ready for prime time, but it can be had here.
http://www.puppypotpie.com/barack.zip
Originally I was going to have it have three facts. Obama is Black. Obama's middle name is Hussein. And Barack is the Democratic nomination for President.
But with javascript "random" would often give the same results enough time in a row to make you think there was only one fact.
I wanted to make a McCain one as well, submit them both to the Apple apps listing page (and version tracker), and see which got approved, which got downloaded the most, etc. But unfortunately, I don't have "too much time on my hands."

Funny you should bring up Karl Wove, EMRJKC. You can hem and haw all you want, but he is one of the far right fringe who looms menacingly, weaving his yarns, warping the truth, and flaxing his influence. He piles on rumors that won't dye because it suits his vested interests, but not everyone cottons to such a tactic. Some of us think he is a big crepe who should be firmly upbraided and kept from lying any moire.
