RIP Jim Ellis. Jim was one of the co-founders of Usenet. Today's a sad day, between Michael's death and Jim's... Why is it that net pioneers die so young...

Oops, just noticed that Jim's death has already been metafiltered. Sorry about that... However, I wonder, why is it that so many of the pioneers of the net die so young. If you look:

- Jon Postel died in his early 40s.
- Jim Ellis died in his early 40s.
- Michael Auben didn't make it to 30.

This is pretty disturbing when you think about it...

"Why is it that net pioneers die so young" What are you suggesting that this might be disturbing.

Gotta be the monitor radiation. :-S

Ray Tomlinson, Vint Cerf, Bob Metcalfe, and many others are still going strong and growing old. There's no need to overinterpret your sample.
