Stand up comedian and Community star Donald Glover made Internet waves as an unsuccessful candidate to play Spiderman, but his fans may miss his rap career as Childish Gambino, where Glover addresses his struggle to be taken seriously as a musician, the perils of wealth, growing up a nerd, and being in love. Rap lyrics and stand up NSFW.
Childish Gambino's albums - I Am Just a Rapper, I Am Just a Rapper 2, and the recent Culdesac, including an acoustic version of Got This Money - are available online for free.

I loved watching this guy in the Derrick Comedy sketches. I'm so glad he's getting famous now for acting and writing. And, I guess, hilarious rapping. He's just so freaking funny.

Eek, I completely forgot to link to some funny Derrick Comedy stuff, though I'm pretty sure if I had my way, we'd give Donald Glover several posts. At any rate, enjoy some NSFW sketches: Thomas Jefferson, GINK, WQXR The Cool Breeze, and He Really Gave It to Me. Then go to your local Netflix and rent Mystery Team, okay? Good.

Dude's got mad jokes, very funny. I love him on Community and it's nice to see he's not just a talented sitcom actor.

I am so in love with Community. I almost didn't watch it because of Chevy Chase and a passable-but-not-outstanding pilot, but it really is one of the more brilliant comedies on TV at the moment.
It's not flawless, but no other show has given me so many laughing-so-hard-I-have-to-pause-the-DVR moments.

Funny, I thought the pilot was one of the strongest first episodes out there. I love Community. It's streets ahead of the other comedies right now, and that includes the current 30 Rocks, which have been so sloppy (by 30 Rock standards, it's still a freaking funny show)

Oh my goodness. This is the first I have ever heard of Danny Glover as Childish Gambino (and thus of Danny Glover as MC DJ, under which name he did remixes).
Back in 2006 he did a couple custom remixes for my blog, Said the Gramophone. We fell out of touch when he sent me his album and I didn't find it particularly gobsmacking.
I'm pretty flabbergasted to discover he is now a famous (great!) comic & actor.

The "Modern Warfare" episode of Community has to rank up there with the best comedy eps of all time. (HIMYM's "Slap Bet" is another recent-ish example.)

He is hilarious. I think its funny that Community realized early from his pre-Community sketch comedy that it is side-splittingly funny when he cries, so now they figure out reasons for him to cry frequently.

I love Donald Glover on Community, especially his Forest Whitaker eye. It blows my mind that he left his job writing for 30 Rock so he could do that show.

What blows my mind is that he left 30 Rock before had any acting roles lined up. Now that's gutsy.
Oh and put me in the camp that didn't like pilot but upon sampling the show in the second season grew to absolutely love it.

Yes. Really. Do it.
I just watched it last night and noticed that he also did the score (!) so chalk this up as an exceptionally timely post for me.
