[Probably NSFW] Alan Bennett responds to Penis Enlargement spam.
If you'd hadn't already guessed this is Jon Culshaw impersonating Alan Bennett for the BBC Radio 4 comedy series The Secret World.

I really don't think Jon Culshaw can do northern accents. But he's not as bad as Rory Bremner.

mippy - Bennett's accent is pretty distinctive and not really a typical Yorkshire, insofar as there is such a thing. I think Culshaw has it pretty well down.

Born a Northerner bread a Southerner. Interested in most things, very much the skeptic.
The essence of scripted comedy is a fine command of the language. Yeah.

I agree: the shape and contours of my ramrod are comfortably familiar to me now, like an old friend, and I contemplate altering them at my peril.

Is it a very English thing to miss the point?

Culshaws impression is fine but I felt that the letter itself was really quite disappointing given the strong comic potential of the premise. But that might be because in my mind Alan Bennett tends to be 20% camper and 54% funnier than he actually is.

That really doesn't sound a lot like Alan Bennett.
Namedropfilter: When I worked on newspapers in North London I once had to phone AB after Jonathan Miller, who also lives in Camden, made a comment about the area being full of "feral children". I introduced myself and began to ask him what he thought, but before I could get more than two words out, he said "I know very well what you're calling about, and I have nothing to saaaay," in that lovely voice. Sigh.

Isn't the entire UK full of feral children these days?

John Culshaw is from Lancashire.
So am I, and I don't have a proper Lancashire accent, and never did. London has a tendency to suck flat vowels back into shape.
Besides, his usual Bennett is way off - he's always eating macaroons with Thora Hird and other stuff that only people who have read about Bennett thinks he says.
