Anyone who doubted that the mcsweeneys.com/mcsweeneys.net merger was a hoax might want to take a look at the new McSweeney's Internet Tendency home page. Somehow I don't think this is a permanent change.

I was hoping they'd do something inventive, but I suppose I shouldn't have expected that.

You don't find the new McSweeney's inventive? When was the last time you saw a popular online magazine change itself so radically?

Of note: domain registration info for mcsweeneys.com and mcsweeneys.net.
Executive summary: mcsweeneys.com was registered five months before mcsweeneys.net, and the administrative contact is, in fact, a certain Gerard McSweeney, resident of Stoneham, MA.
It's a deep game you're playing, Eggers, but I'll flush you out.

Deep game? I mean, I love McSweeney's, but it's just a sophomoric joke.

I decided against putting a ;) after that last sentence...apparently I should have. Anyway, I was kidding. I'm nurturing a Dave Eggers obsession. I recently found out that one of my exes had lunch with him three years ago. This was a major piece. I am now two degrees away.

Well I'm approximately .0175 radians away, since I am in fact a staggering genius. Especially when I've been drinking. Laugh! laugh! you prettified orangutans.

Not that Dave Eggers is above pulling sophmoric jokes, but I don't think this is one of them. More likely it's exactly what it was presented as.. or at least, that would be the most interesting explanation.

i think that D.E's lame antics belie his intelligence and ability as a talented young writer.

...then again i still haven't figured out what the whole park slope reading/ elephant painting thing was all about. immagine how shocked i was, after writing the whole thing off as an obvious hoax, to find out that there really were paintings by elephants...

This discussion does not bring to mind this site, parts of which are hilarious.
