The winners of the 5K contest have been announced. Not all of my personal favorites made it into the top 10, but I think that they are all very strong entries, which is all one can hope for in contests like these.
Hey, c'mon, I'm in the middle of building this — should be done in 1/2 hour or so.

Sorry man, it was public and therefore fair game. Hee hee. ;)

it wasn't an e-commerce site. it was a fully-functioning abstraction of an e-commerce site; thus it was both a clever satire on the current preoccupations of the web business, and a robust proof of concept that 5k is plenty to work with.
it was no more an actual e-commerce site than somebody's naked palm pilot campaign was a genuine ad campaign. ;)
but of course jason is kidding.
and it isn't officially live yet. god, we are such a bunch of in-the-know-it-alls.

That's the funny thing about averages — they usually don't reflect anyone's choice.Anyway, it will be your (and everyone else's) decision at some point. I'm going to get the rest of the entries on there and do a people's choice version a little later. (Probably a lot later, really. I need to get back to normal life.)But you heard it here first (still writing it for the 5k site at this point) — people's choice for the 5k coming.

It seems pretty live, now. I'm glad to have come in second. Pretty neat.
(Not to ask even *more* of you, Stewart, but) I think it would be great if there were some commentary from the judges on at least some of the entries. I would love to hear what they actually thought of the winners, and am also curious as to how the numerical scores came out (for each category, plus file-size bonus, for the total). Also, maybe each judges' individual favorites?

Not sure which ones you mean: the hard-to-read pages are here and the "I can't compete" pages are here. I just accidentally nuked the original slot page, but the list page is still here. Phew.

It's all coming Josh :)
All those things you mention (probably), plus a little more.

Jeez. Some of these are pretty handly microapplets to have around, 5k or not, like the cool minimalist calendar and the web color visualizer. Now I can finally unbookmark Webmonkey.

Seriously-- the most useful items should be put together into a little compendium...it warms the cockles of every nerd's heart to see small, efficient things perform useful tasks quickly.

Jeremy, I like the calendar too. =) Sylloge, thanks, it was the "in the stack" one.

Ironically, I seem to be having problems viewing the entries. Some take forever to download. Must be my connection...

I liked so many of them, I don't envy those who had to choose.
