So where are Mr. Congeniality (Ari Fleischer) and his bride-to-be registered for their upcoming wedding? Let's see. . .Macy's, Crate & Barrel, and. . .Target?
Target registry.
I'm going to buy Ari this book for his wedding. He probably needs a primer.

Whoops! Cookies messed me up there. If you want to see the Target registry, search for the name here. If that link doesn't work, go to Target.com and look for it. (They're looking for a Forrest Gump DVD, if you're stumped for a gift.)

um...are we sure this is everybody's favorite liar, or just some other guy named Ari Fleischer? For all we know, if he was getting married, his gift registry would be under Lawrence Fleischer, eh?

No, it's him. I found this with help from USN&WR (scroll down ot the bottom, under "Sunday at Macy's").

Someone should sign them up for a Wal-Mart registry, and put him down for one of these aptly-named items.

I guess it's true what they say...there's someone for everyone. Even the Worm.
I checked, but "sincerity" and "integrity" aren't on the lists, so I won't be getting him anything.

Don't knock Target---I've got a friend who works for Marshall Fields and apparently a lot of their overstock ends-up rebranded in Target to clear it out.

... where you can't say certain words. The bad news for Ari's future Taboo opponents is that he totally rocks at this game. Remember this before you go over to Ari and Rebecca's place for board game night.

Cynically, one could say: No, except while doing so he has managed to piss off the people on the White House press corps more quickly and thoroughly than anybody else. Even during the worst relations between the press and Clinton, McCurry (and Lockhart) managed to keep their senses of humor and rapport, with a kind of "you know I've got to lie to you, so please don't call me on it" attitude, rather than Ari's Chinese Wall of "how dare you accuse me of lying to you?".

There IS no reasonable expectation of privacy when you make your begging lists publicly available.

And I concur with the guy who said not to knock Target. It is a great store that has nice stuff for a good price.

In addition to Marshall Fields (and upscale regional retailers Dayton's and Hudson's), Target is also related to Mervyn's. There's definitely trickle-down in the Dayton Hudson Corporation -- I'm sure the buyers for Target use their leverage with the same manufacturers DHC calls on for its upscale stores to get good stuff for their discount store too. This is the real edge Target has over Wal-Mart or KMart.

You should be aware that Field's and Mervyn's are not driving profits in that company, which has renamed itself ... drumroll please ... Target Corporation.

Just to prove that we're totally off-topic: The Target store on Nicollet (in downtown Minneapolis) is nice, but I still miss Jitters and the Times. Downtown Minneapolis was pretty cool before we started spending millions of dollars to put big-box retail stores in the middle of the city.

I just wanted to stick in my oar and say I like their china pattern -- I'm a big fan of the Lenox Presidential collection.
As well, I think it's nice of people to register at Target. Other than our china (which Target hasn't added to the merchandise as of yet), that's the only place we registered. The picture frames and towels are alot more affordable there, and not necessarily of less quality, than at department stores. But many other people have mentioned that already.

The shopping cart escalator is really cool, they've got one in Queens too.
The commitment of Target to adapt horizontal suburban retail to vertical urban environments is impressive! Will be interesting to see what Wal-Mart does when it crosses the final frontier and starts to build stores in highly dense urban areas.

Around here, Montgomery Ward's went out of business and had two large stores that stood empty until Tarzhay installed the Escalator Of Fabulosity. One of these is very near my house and I can't wait for it to open! When the first one opened, I saw a significant number of people just going up and down the escalator with empty carts.
Incidentally, both of these stores are in the 'anchor' areas of malls. I want to see what is going to happen to the third Ward's store in town, at yet another mall...
