The best site on the web just got better. You'll need plenty of time to go through this attractive, useful, and encyclopedic work.

And yes, I know, this is a double post. I posted the original. But the site just finished major reconstruction and added loads of new features, and is my favorite (non-porn) website.

Enjoy.

Wow. That's amazing. I could spend weeks at that site. Thank you.

Super! And the progress report is dated 1 August. I know it reveals superficiality but I just love it when things are these fresh. Cheers, dfowler!

Holy cow, the site and its presentation is simply magnificent.

This is amazing. So much information... The measurement tool that is built into the tomb maps is a great idea. Thanks.

This is brilliant. Thanks.

I agree. Out of all the Ban Mapping Projects out there, this is The Ban Mapping Project of them all. One more question: If you enter a virtual tomb, are you subject to a virtual curse?

Good stuff. This is what the web was made for, and then some.

The site reminded me of Second Story's work and, lo and behold, they indeed produced it. Excellent.

simply incredible. if only the web contained more web sites as well built as this one. a must see. must have taken them ages to build.

Some people have an odd definition of best. Despite the absolutely significant difference in quality of presentation, sites like Google, CNN, and Yahoo! seem to me to rank higher on any list of best sites.

Content matters!

What a masterpiece. Consider the ban mapped. They made great decisions about when to use Flash, and when not to.

Content matters indeed. The site has it in spades.

This is wonderful, but upon the first visit, I kept wondering why the Egyptians wanted to ban maps...

I have to weigh in with the minority on this one. The Best Site on the Web? Best Site for Egyptologists, perhaps, but as one whose interests range far and wide but somehow not to Ancient Egypt, I'll have to agree with Billsaythis: some people have a funny idea of what the word "best" means.

Amazing! I was wondering why I missed it the first time but realized it was before my time here at Mefi. Thank you, dfowler!

Not just pretty to look at and well implemented, but very well thought out from an information design (in the Tuftean sense) perspective, as well. Must have taken a lot of planning and thought.

Makes me wish for an employer who's prepared to pay for this kind of quality.

Becoming an Egyptologist. 8 years to get a PhD plus 4 to 5 languages including Arabic, German, French etc.. and then if your lucky, you get to dig a hole in the ground and find pottery. Id rather take my chances finding pre-clovis artifacts in my back yard.

All "best site ever" posts rank right up there with comic book guy's "worst episode ever" nonsense on The Simpsons. In fact, I get a hell of a lot of bullshit spam every day that says "best [blank] ever", so pardon me for being annoyed at your pandering and pimping. The fact that you are proud of your double posting makes me like you even less.

I'll be the judge of it's supposed goodness, thank you very much.

Mark13:

I realize this thread is probably over, and you'll never read this, but just in case you do, please respond:

You are a douchebag.

How's that for starters? Did you look at the site, kneejerk?
