As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I think I can truly state that Dr. Fate's fabulous blue and gold costume made me the gay man that I am today. Likewise, Element Lad's admitted shyness towards women (and pretty pink outfit) helped me identify with him as a gay teen. Until now, though, I didn't know where I could find others whose gayness was so closely intertwined with a love of comic books. The Gay League changed all that. Warning, some of the fan-submitted artwork, featuring generously overendowed (even by superhero standards) men and women is probably a little risque for work. We're here, we're queer, we love the Legion!
Thanks wolf...I never heard of any of these guys and gals!
But where's that flaming guy from the fabulous four? (oops-fantastic)
If the thing can come out as jewish, that guy should be able to...and batman and robin--helllooooooo???

trivia: in british slang, 'fanny' does not refer to a butt, as it does in american slang. it refers to a vagina.

Is it just me, or is the convergence of media scary?
Why does this bring episodes of last seasons' "Queer as Folk" (american version) to mind? Nope, this site started in '97...
I've avoided every other soap opera in existence (including Deep Space 9: soap in space for for star trek nerds), but the writing, the acting and "reality" of "Queer as Folk" is simply too good to ignore.
(Michaels' whole "alter-ego" comic-hero/closeted youth analogy dissertation was great...)

here's the thing's "coming out" story
Thanks for the times story--but does the Real World's Judd have to do it--he's been living off his friendship with Pedro for years already--there are no out comic book writers?

amberglow, I believe the creators listed on the Gay League site are all self-identified as gay...

amberglow, if I'm not mistaken, Winick was brought in to write Green Lantern, not Terry Berg, and he's been writing the book for a little while now. Since the main character in GL is young, and is a cartoonist, just like Winick is, I guess they brought him on for verisimilitude. Dude.
I tend to look at it this way: one doesn't need to be straight to play one on tv. However, Winick's always been just a little too gay-friendly for me to believe he's 100% het. Poor straight folks ... damned if they do me, damned if they don't.

Although my inclinations are hetero, I've always considered Maggie & Hopey as the best...uncloseted...role models...ever.

Oh, phooey on you! That show had the best lesbian kiss ever ... at least til Mia Kirshner came along as naked-terrorist Mandy on 24.

Well, there's Phil Jimenez, but he's plenty busy on Wonder Woman. The Washington Post did a nice article on him back in April.

Lord Fanny is the most four-dimensional character on the list :)
Is there where the revolution started?
I remember the media broo-ha-ha at the time, but sexuality was never a deciding issue in my consumption of comics [though maybe the size of the guns, pecs, biceps 'n' breasts were? hehe].

elphTeq, you're way too late.
The revolution began in 1962, with Superboy #98.
Heh heh. Let's see what's underneath each other's clothes. Lana Lang's oblivious to our secret telescopic gaydar powers!!

Element Lad has been through a lot since he came on the scene. I'm still annoyed at Paul Levitz for bucking the trend that Jim Shooter started.
Although back when I was in Legion Fandom, the hot gay characters were Nemesis Kid and Lightning Lord.
I always thought Timber Wolf (when completely human looking) was hot, if a bit of a mook. Woof!

I'd forgotten about Danny the Street:
Danny is a phenomenon unto himself. Neither man nor machine, fish nor fowl, flora nor fauna, he is in fact a sentient transvestite street - a short, two-lane avenue flanked by dozens of strange and eccentric shops and storefronts.
Grant Morrison, I love you.

Apologies. But you did mention overendowed superheroes.
And Lord Fanny rocks. Thank you.
