As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I think I can truly state that Dr. Fate's fabulous blue and gold costume made me the gay man that I am today. Likewise, Element Lad's admitted shyness towards women (and pretty pink outfit) helped me identify with him as a gay teen. Until now, though, I didn't know where I could find others whose gayness was so closely intertwined with a love of comic books. The Gay League changed all that. Warning, some of the fan-submitted artwork, featuring generously overendowed (even by superhero standards) men and women is probably a little risque for work. We're here, we're queer, we love the Legion!

trivia: in british slang, 'fanny' does not refer to a butt, as it does in american slang. it refers to a vagina.

Is it just me, or is the convergence of media scary?

Why does this bring episodes of last seasons' "Queer as Folk" (american version) to mind? Nope, this site started in '97...

I've avoided every other soap opera in existence (including Deep Space 9: soap in space for for star trek nerds), but the writing, the acting and "reality" of "Queer as Folk" is simply too good to ignore.

(Michaels' whole "alter-ego" comic-hero/closeted youth analogy dissertation was great...)

Thanks for the times story--but does the Real World's Judd have to do it--he's been living off his friendship with Pedro for years already--there are no out comic book writers?

amberglow, if I'm not mistaken, Winick was brought in to write Green Lantern, not Terry Berg, and he's been writing the book for a little while now. Since the main character in GL is young, and is a cartoonist, just like Winick is, I guess they brought him on for verisimilitude. Dude.

I tend to look at it this way: one doesn't need to be straight to play one on tv. However, Winick's always been just a little too gay-friendly for me to believe he's 100% het. Poor straight folks ... damned if they do me, damned if they don't.

Well, there's Phil Jimenez, but he's plenty busy on Wonder Woman. The Washington Post did a nice article on him back in April.

Element Lad has been through a lot since he came on the scene. I'm still annoyed at Paul Levitz for bucking the trend that Jim Shooter started.

Although back when I was in Legion Fandom, the hot gay characters were Nemesis Kid and Lightning Lord.

I always thought Timber Wolf (when completely human looking) was hot, if a bit of a mook. Woof!
