I was flooded with retro-memories of Commodore 64 music at c64audio.com. I distinctly remember playing boulderdash and hearing this for hours.
You just made me think of David Whittaker, one of the best video game music composers ever.
Download Deli Player (www.deliplayer.com) and get the music from Shadow of the Beast at gamemusic.siliconcircus.co.uk. Great memories resurface!

Amazing how that music still sounds computerized even when played by a decent piano sound.
I've never had a C64 or played Boulderdash, but my first thought was that this sounds a lot like something Stewart Copeland might have written for the TV series The Equalizer!

My ultimate favorite C64 music has to be the title theme from Skate or Die. I was utterly enchanted by the fancy multi-voicing effects that produced the distorted guitar-synth chords. The theme has many great sections and I used to leave it sitting on the title screen for 10 minutes just to listen to the whole thing (the loop is actually about 5 minutes). The recreations on this site just don't do the original C64 performance justice; I want an MP3 of the C64!
Not necessarily good musically, though. The beauty is in the C64 straining its little SID chip to pump out all the notes. And even then I think my appreciation for it is limited to the geeky aspects of the technology. Still, I plan on using this theme in a movie some day.
